Cultivating Farmer Prosperity in Naamvili & Tugu Yepalsi Communities

WSLi Ghana is proud to share a remarkable success story from the Naamvili & Tugu Yepalsi communities in Northern Ghana.

13 April 2025

Location:

Naamvili & Tugu Yepalsi communities in Northern Ghana

Challenge:

These rural communities faced significant challenges in agricultural productivity, financial access, and market linkages. Particularly, smallholder farmers, especially women, were struggling to improve yields, access quality inputs, and secure fair prices for their produce, limiting their ability to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the local economy.

Solution:

To address these challenges, WSLi Ghana implemented an integrated agribusiness model, deeply inspired by the Grameen philosophy. The model was designed to empower smallholder farmers by providing targeted micro-credits, up to 5,000 cedis, which enabled farmers to invest in quality inputs and mechanization. In addition to financial support, WSLi Ghana paired this initiative with expert agribusiness consulting, offering tailored guidance on sustainable farming practices and market access. The model also focused on fostering farmer groups, which cultivated social capital, enabling collective bargaining and knowledge sharing within the community.

Outcome:

The results of this integrated approach have been transformative. WSLi Ghana’s initiative has significantly boosted agricultural productivity, strengthened local economies, and improved market linkages, ensuring fair prices for farmers. Furthermore, the initiative has contributed to sustainable development by promoting practices that protect the environment and ensure long-term prosperity. The empowered farmer groups have cultivated resilience within the communities, improving both livelihoods and social cohesion. WSLi Ghana is proud to have catalyzed lasting, positive change, supporting farmers in building brighter futures and contributing to the overall economic growth of Northern Ghana.
